ROSS PATERSON, an award winner in the 2012 Shanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolour Biennial Exhibition, is one of the most reputable and respected watercolour artists in the world today. His paintings are concise, yet free flowing, rich yet light.
Born in Victoria and with an inherent love of the Australian landscape, Ross commenced oil painting at about 16 years of age, whilst a student in Shepparton,Victoria. He was encouraged as a student, to draw and paint on location (a trend he still maintains).While still a teenager he completed a Diploma of Graphic Design at Caulfied Institute of Technology (now Monash University). This course included life drawing, graphic printmaking, as well as painting and design.
Following over twenty years of teaching art in Victorian Secondary schools, and painting part time, Ross resigned from the Education system in 1994 to pursue his passion for painting.
urrently he has over 220 major awards to his credit including being three times winner of the Australian Landscape Award at Camberwell Art Show. His work has been awarded at Victor Harbor a number of times (Major Award, 2005); the inaugural ‘Kenneth Jack Award’ for watercolour in Victoria, and many other major exhibitions throughout Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales.
